The Anthro Group scammed me and now I may be facing jail time

I recieved a letter in the mail accompanied by a check stating that I had been awarded a home emprovment grant. I am a student and I dont have and income right now. So when this check for $3950 came in the mail I jumped on it. I cashed the check at a place that was recommend by my brother in law. Three weeks later they call and say that the check was a fake and I have to pay back the money, Which I dont have.in the letter I recieved I was to send back a total of 1950 for taxes which I sent to an Emily Danes @466 Logan Street in Brooklyn, NY 11208-2520. After I sent the money I called to confirm the arrival with a Tony Robinson, who once I let him know that the money had been sent got very rude and hung ip on me. I am in a state of shock because of my present situation. I am a student with no income I thought this was grant money that I hd applied for online. I was wrong how can i help myself out of this situation.
