They sent a very authentic looking check for $3970 that required activating to pay taxes

Construction & Repair

I received a letter stating I had been selectled randomly to receive a home improvement grant for $39,000. I was sent a check for $3200 and I had to activate the check before depositing into my account. Once the check was activated and deposited, I had to pay $1950 for taxes and fees. This amount could be deducted from the check that had been forwarded to me or I could opt to pay this amount myself and receive a check for the entire $39,000. My third option was to elect to not receive any of this money and it would be given to a charitable organization. I had until October 15 to claim this grant.

On the reverse side of this letter was a paragraph stating that it was a grant and did not have to be repaid. Once I placed the call to my Claims representative, Jennifer Hayes to activate my check, I could make the deposit. Jennifer asked me if I accepted this grant and I told her I needed more time to think this over and I ended my call with the knowledge that I had until October 15th. I was also told that the vendors on the back of the letter only wanted me to use their establishment to do the rennovating. Companies included Walmart, IBM, Panasonic, Microsoft, Sunoco, Cosco and several others. My hestitation came about as a result of not having submitted any request for such a thing. What had me intrigued was that fact that Iworked for IBM and I had, in the past, submitted entries for the sweepstakes entries (who among us haven't).

I am so thankful that I did not accept this offer and had the mind set to check to see if I could find any information and there it was. I only regret not blocking my phone number when I placed the call. I tore the letter into tiny pieces once I found the report and I had to spend time placing it back together so I could include address and phone numbers. I also asked were they are located and she (Jennifer) stated New York and if I wantd, I could call the bank and they would verify that $39,000 was just sitting there waiting for me... Which the balance would have been delivered to me in the next few days after I paid the taxes and fees.
