Even Saying No Doesn't Work!

Miscellaneous

This is what happened to me. About a week ago I received a call from these guys telling me that because I am in such good standing with my credit card company that they have chosen me to receive a $1000 shopping spree. All I had to do was verify my card. While I was suspicious I was in hurry to get out of the house and my mind was elsewhere so i just rattled off the number.

All of a sudden I'm being told that it will cost me $49.95 a mo nth for 24 months for a grand total of over $1200! Immediately I told them I no longer wanted to be part of the offer and was told that the order had already went through and that I would have to wait 30 days before I could do anything. I made them give me a number that I could call to cancel and they gave it to me saying that they would take care of it when I called and then they hung up on me.

About 5 days later I get a notice in the mail telling me about my agreement and if I wanted to cancel I had to sign the bill and send it back to them within 7 days of making the agreement. It took 5 days for me to even receive the notification telling me I had 7 days to cancel! I sent in the letter immediately by regular mail (I read they don't pick up certified mail).

I then called the number they gave me and was informed that I could not cancel because they have a recording of me agreeing to pay which they played back to me, which conveniently didn't include the segment where I was telling them to remove me from the offer nor did it have the part where the guy told me I could cancel by calling the number.

So far my credit card has been charged once and I will see what they will do when they receive the signed bill for cancellation although from reading other stories I am not expecting this to be over for a while.
