Contest America Publishing
Through-the-mail scams that target poor and elderly with promise of prize money

Miscellaneous

An elderly friend of mine has been writing checks to "CAP" or "Contest America Publishing" for several months... Virtually draining her checking account and giving away a substantial percentage of her meager annual income, which consists of a single Social Security check that totals just over $10,000.in the past three months, her checks to CAP have totalled a stunning $455! Most are in the amount of $10, $25 or $35 for various contests that propose to be a chance to win big cash prizes.

Like most of the victims of CAP's endeavors, my friend is eager to solve her debt problems through a quick score of the big cash promised by CAP. I have tried to underscore the fact that CAP is a scam, but she continues to send the checks. I am worried that she will eventually run out of money and drive herself so much further into debt that she will be forced out of the low-income housing in which she resides.

Please spread the word that CAP is a fraud and do all you can to encourage the elderly and those of lesser means to hold onto the precious few dollars they have versus sending them to companies like CAP who exist solely to exploit the disadvantaged. Shame on them!
