My mom is an elderly 85 year old whom is receiving lottery scams every day in the mail sometimes she receives more then one from the same place. Everyone claims she won large amounts of money and request a process fee of $20.00 or more. And my mom has dementia and all the family told her that they are nothing but scams stealing her money. But she will not listen and mails checks or even cash out to these scams and has been now for years. I have taken some without her knowing and have checked on the net and see that they are in fact scams. Something needs to be done about this there are so many different ones coming in every day and a lot of them i never get to see as she mails them out herself. I understand that this has been an ongoing thing since about the mid to late 1990s and still continues to go on with my mom sending money to these scams. I had spoke with her doctor and he tried talking with her and she told her doctor to mind his own Business. I have told all the family members NOT to mail them if asked but they do any ways. I just dont know what to do about this matter. I have asked advice from the elderly services and they claim that even if i took the matter to court trying to become moms payee or power of Attorney the courts might not go along with it if mom is able to talk for herself so i am so confused as to what can be done to stop all this stealing of my moms limited income she receives monthly.
