The representative said DirecTV has "taken over" DISH TV and we'd need to get new equipment

Miscellaneous

We have been DISH TV customers for many years. Earlier in the month I called DISH about a reception problem. However, I misdialed 888- instead of 800 and got a DirecTV representative, who identified himself as "Shaun" - could, of course be "Sean."
He said that Dish was being "taken over" by DirecTV and we'd need to change our equipment. I saw no reason to question it and agreed.
The new equipment was installed today.
There were problems, including no local programs.
I called a service person about it and was told that local was not in our package and it would take about a month to get it installed. Along the way I commented that DISH had provided better service and the taking over was unfortunate. The service person denied there had been a take-over. I confirmed that with further checking.
With further calls, a DirecTV representative said our credit card payment would be cancelled and the company would arrange to have the equipment returned.
The use of the similar phone number was clearly not by chance and this is obviously a deliberate deception.
We be pleased to be involved in a class-action suit.
