Unauthorized charges to my debit card consumer fraud ripoff

In looking over my October checking/debit record I found a charge of $119.95 made to MWi Homeworks on 10/28/02 with an accompaning phone number and transaction number. After several attempts to contact these people I finally made it through their "telephone HELL" and spoke with someone name Loli. Loli informed me that the charge was for a discount membership club for home improvement items at local home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes etc.

Immediately I asked how they had received authorization for this charge since I knew I had not authorized anything and she explained that a packet of information was mailed to me several weeks ago explaining the offer. I do not recall receiving the packet of information and I certainly di dnot accept their offer.

According to Loli weh I aske how they were able to get authorization to debit my checking account she said I had purchased something with it two years previous and so they just billed it to that account - again without authorization. After forcibly voicing my complaint Loli assured me that my account would be credited for the full $119.95 purchase price (big of them) in 3-5 business days.

I've since contacted my bank as well as the Attorney General and lodged a complaint. The bank tells me that if in 3-5 business days I don't get the credit I can come into the bank and get a purchase dispute form and file it with the bank for follow-up action.

Its beyond my comprehension how business like this stay in business. I will do anything within my power to make sure as many people as possible hear about the scam. I work for a small non-profit consumer healthcare foundation and feel as a consumer our only defense against this kind of robbery is to educate as many as possible.
