Lies and High Pressure Tactics

I signed up for the so-called sweepstakes to win a "FREE" basement waterproofing. Within a week, they were at my house and conducted a 15min visual inspection of the basement and spent the next 2 hours going through a ridiculously long computer sales presentation.

No mention was made of the contest. The salesman handed my fiance a piece of paper and said it was an estimate we needed to sign. My fiance signed it without reading it. When I got it and read the fine print, I saw that it was actually a contract to perform the work and I had only three days to rescind. Obviously the salesman had made no mention of this. I became angry and repeatedly asked for the contract back. He kept hedging, calling the office to get financial paperwork going, touching my sleeve and my hair and making "cute" comments in a really pathetic attempt to distract me with flattery.

Bottom line is, he left with the signed contract and never did give it back. I called the next day to cancel and was told the salesman would be back to have us sign cancellation papers— conveniently, the day AFTER the 3-day cooling off period. I finally got the manager on the phone, who told me it wasn't actually necessary to sign paperwork to rescind the contract. So, that had apparently just been another pressure tactic they bailed on when they realized I was too angry for it to work.

As far as their lies go— we were also told they were OC employees who were happy and looking forward to their 401Ks. A quick check with the state of Ohio proved they were actually franchises. He also made a HUGE deal about never having had a BBB complaint, which was true— but, again, a quick check with Ohio's attorney general proved they had five complaints in three different counties for poorservice/shoddy work, warranty, repairs & services and cancellation rights. Too bad I wasn't armed with that info when he was still there, especially when he refused three times to give the contract back.

This happened to me in January. It is now April, and I am STILL angry about it. Beware!!
