Amex Movers - Peak Movers
Ripped me off by $2000 and delivery was delayed by two weeks

Miscellaneous

Short Story: They ripped me off by almost $2000 for moving a one bedroom from San Diego to New York City. And, the shipping was delayed by two weeks.

Long Story: In the beginning, they gave me a deceptive quote of the moving cost that meant to secure my business.in the end, they charged me more than twice ($3631) what the cost should have been if they had kept their initial quote for one bedroom.in the initial quote over the phone, they promised to only charge me on the freight weight. They will offer free partial packing, free packing marterial and one month free storage. However, in the end, they charged me everything from labor to packing material. And, the way they charged me on labor is outrageous. They not only charged me by hour but by item. They even charged me on gas which had never been mentioned to me before. I was not informed of all these charges when they picked up my stuff on Dec 15.in fact, the mover only asked me to put down $590 in addition to a $100 deposit I paid when I booked the shipping. I was told this is about half of the estimated total cost and I would pay the rest when I received my shipping in New York. The shipping window I gave them was from Jan 2 to 9. Then, on Jan 3, I got a phone call from the company asking me to pay $1088 in order to have my package delivered. It was by then I was told the total cost of my shipping amount to $3631. And, according to their policy, I have to pay about half of that in order to get my package shipped. Basically, they held my stuff as hostage and threatened to have it sold on auction if I did not pay after the one month free storage. At this point, I had no choice but forced to pay them. Eventually, I paid them on the morning of Jan. 5 and they promised to have my package shipped on the afternoon of Jan. 5. Later, I found out from the driver that it was another lie. My package did not even leave LA until Jan 13. When I received my package, it was Jan 22 two weeks after the delivery window I gave them. They also asked me to pay $300 in addition to $3631 for transferring my package from big truck to small one due to restriction in Yonkers etc. Although I can accept their explanation on this one, it came to me unexpected. They should bring up all these potential cost up front.
