Moving scam, they estaimed $1000 and charged $3000 for a studio apt

I used this mover on June 28. I moved from a 300 square foot studio apartment in Manhattan. I gave them a description of the size of the apartment and what I had, and this is the moving estimate: "Gentle Moving Inc 800-246-0661 License Information USDOT 1278663 MC 486899 Mymovers@aol.com Your move from NEW YORK to FLORIDA would be charged at a rate of $2.60 per cubic foot. Based on an estimate of 300 - 400 cubic feet, your cost would be between $900 - $1100."

The movers came on June 28 and put my stuff in their van. They packed it in the van very poorly so that it was not all stacked and took up much more space than it should have. Their final cost after packing the van was almost $5000. I was very upset and spoke with Christine, the moving consultant on the telephone. She said that she was the only supervisor available. She said that I could pay $700 and have the movers unpack all the stuff back into the apartment. I told her to have them stack everything properly n the van so that the cubic footage would be much less.

She then told me that they would charge $3000 total for the move plus $225 per month for storage and the first 30 days free storage and that she would email the details to me since I asked for it in writing. I was in a terrible situation with all my stuff on their truck and my lease over. She never emailed as promised.

I have been out of the country since July 1 returned to the US on 10/15/07. I called and spoke to Nick, the owner, and he cursed at my fiance and threatened to sell my stuff at auction. I sent them a bank check for $675 for storage on 10/19/07 and they said it will take 4 days to clear and then they will contact me regarding delivery.

I sent many emails while traveling and my mom called to ask for deliver on 10/21/07. I am very upset that they estimated $1000 for my studio apartment and then took advantage of me and charged $3000. I paid them $2100 on June 28 when they picked up the stuff. Now they are holding my stuff hostage and when I call to complain, they say there is no supervisor in to speak with. I have complained to the BBB, NY Attorney General, and US DOT now.
