One of the nation's largest developers—driven by bad management and stolen money

American Campus Communities develops many properties all over the companies geared toward college students. They develop these properties near large college campuses and prey on students with too much of mommy and daddy's money and too little motivation to care about where there money is being spent.

This is probably one of the shadiest businesses I have ever dealt with. My biggest issue at there Buffalo, NY property has been with the management. After my year lease ended and I chose not to renew, my security deposit was not returned to me. After to speaking to many of my friends who also lived at this apartment complex, I found that none of the security deposits had been returned. I contacted the local office who kept saying their system was down or that the person I had to speak to was not there at the moment. After this didn't work, I contacted the corporate office located in Texas—they also gave me the run around.

Five months later I finally received my check, only after looking up the laws about security deposits and threatening to sue. About two weeks ago I received a letter from a collection agency saying that I had an outstanding balance from this horrible company. It was two months of electric bills that I had already paid, out of my security deposit. They sent it directly to the collection agency without contacting me. It has been TWO years since I lived in their property.

If anybody is considering living in ANY of the American Campus communities properties I highly recommend that you don't. Unless you want to deal with rude, incompetent management. I'm still dealing with their incompetence TWO years after I lived there.
