"Free Shipping" Ripoff - Bait And Switch Scam "Free Shipping" scam - expected to wait over a month to get my product Seattle

Miscellaneous

I ordered a pair of good headphones from Amazon because they had the lowest price and offered free shipping. Previously I had used their free shipping on book orders over $25 and the books had arrived in about a week.

This time, for some reason the ordering system would not accept my P.O. Box address. I thought it must be because they use UPS for non-book items, and gave them my physical address which was accepted. But in the confirmation email, it said that my order would be shipped USPS. This is a problem, because I live in a rural area where the Postal Service does not deliver to houses. Everyone in town has a P.O. Box for that reason. UPS does deliver to homes, but the USPS doesn't. So I contacted them to ask them to change the address.

I got an email back claiming they could do nothing. Even though the order had yet to be filled, much less shipped, they could not change the address. I was told to wait a month while they ship my item to an undeliverable address, let the package be returned to them, they would credit my account, and then I could order the item all over again. So far the item has not arrived and no one seems to have any idea where it is.

This is unacceptable. It seems to me that their "free shipping" offer is a scam, designed to frustrate customers to the point where they'll gladly pay extra for Amazon to NOT lose their package or leave it sitting around for weeks and weeks and not getting delivered. They deliberately delay the "free shipping orders" to get even with the customers who insist that they honor their advertised policies. Do not trust Amazon.
