Quality Subscriptions
Scammed by young woman posing as selling subscriptions as a fundraising for trip

Miscellaneous

On July 30, a young woman, either in her late teens or early 20's, came to the door. She said she lived a couple streets over, and named a street I was familiar with. She said she had been attending Georgetown College, but was home due to financial reasons, and hoped to go back next year. She was a very friendly girl, and seemed very genuine. She said she played women's soccer, and her team was trying to raise money to go to the finals, which were held in Hawaii. (I just finished reading someone else's report, which said THEIR seller also said Maui - how ironic!).

She said she was trying to get enough money for her to go, and asked for help with a donation, which would also be a benefit to me. The donation would be applied towards books, such as children's books, etc, that I could select from for myself. She stated that I would receive a booket/pamphlet in the mail within a week or two that would allow me to select which books I wanted according to my donation. She said she was trying to get everyone to donate $40. Sounded like a reasonable deal to me - help someone out, and get a few books for $40.

So, being the sucker I apparently, was, I wrote her a check out for $40, written to Quality Subscriptions. They promptly cashed my check, but of course, I've never heard anything else from them. I have made several long distance phone calls, leaving messages. The never answer. They have voice mail which either comes on and takes a message, or is "full" and cannot accept your message.

I was totally scammed! I can't believe I let this happen. I am usually a VERY cautious person, who is suspicious of door to door selling, and I am very embarrassed that I fell for this scheme. Hopefully, I can save someone else from this. If anyone knows of a class action suit, or such, please let me know. I would love to help prosecute this company for doing people like this.
