They took $99.95 out of my personal banking account for a credit card application I didn't apply for!

I'll admit I'm not the best with handling my finances, but when I discovered I was missing about $100 from my bank account I had to check it out. I'm so glad I did!

I went online to check my bank statement and saw an unusual transaction with the memo NMB PLATINUM CC APP FEE 3119264 that debited $99.95 from my account! It was on November 1, the same day I made a payment to my Capital One credit card. So immediately I called Capital One assuming they had taken $99.95 out of my bank account on top of my minimum monthly payment, and they said they didn't do it or it would say Capital One in the memo of the debit.

I thought to myself how in the world could someone charge this amount of money from my account, if I didn't apply for any credit cards or give anyone else my information? Thankfully I found an article on this site of someone else who had the same thing happen to them when I googled the name on the memo. I called my bank right away about the fraudulent charge and got it taken care of. I closed my bank account and set up a new one to prevent anything else happening to my money. I suggest anyone else who had this happen to them do the same!

The only logical reason I can think of how they got such personal information is when I made the payment over the phone with Capital One to make my credit card payment. Of course I had to give them my account number over the phone, and I'm thinking there may have been a third party listening in on the phone conversation recording my information. (Again, the both the NMB and Capital One transactions on my statement were on the same day!) I suggest that everyone be careful about what information they give out over the phone! I also plan to call Capital One back and inform them about what happened to me and that they need to delete my information right away.

I'm just glad I found it and was able to take care of it right away!
