Town & Country Foods
False and Misleading Hiring & Operating Practices

Miscellaneous

Hired as an Independent Contractor/Direct Seller. Your forced to attend daily scheduled meetings, (if you do not attend you will be fired). You must be on call from 8:00 A.M. To 8:00 pm. Six days a week, you must take scheduled appointments when they call you with no advanced notice and you are required to do cold calling in the neighborhood of your scheduled appointment one hour before and one hour after appointment, without pay, (Town & Country calls this clover-leafing, I call it working for free).

Town & Country considers you an employee, however Town & Country side steps all taxes, benefits and State contributions by naming you a Independent Contractor/Direct Seller.

Their false and misleading ads for hiring claim 10 to 15 thousand dollars per month, however sales managers are the only ones that may reach these amounts due to management selection of appointments. Most reps do not last more than 30 days and their expenses outweigh their income. Your income for the first 30 days is on a average around &1,500.00 less all your expenses.

Expenses include use of your own auto, gas for driving to daily scheduled meetings and scheduled appointments. Over 50% of their appointments are no shows, one-leggers or not qualified, (even though they will tell you they are qualified and confirmed this is not the case). They will ask you to travel in excess of 4,000 to 5,000 miles per month at the scheduled times and locations they set up for you at your own expense, no reimbursement of gas or car allowance of any nature.

During the hiring process, none of what they will expect you to do will be revealed. They hire 10 to 15 new reps on a bi-weekly basis under false expectations, many of these people have given up good paying jobs with benefits to accept these phony paying positions, only to find out after two weeks that it is a complete scam, and you are quick to quit or let go if you should question any of what you were led to believe when you were hired.
Week-end bonus programs are never in writing and if you should possibly reach the set goal, Town & Country Foods will tell you, you misunderstood the qualifications and will not pay you the bonus.

After sitting through 4 months of Monday scheduled meetings where the Vice president of Town & Country Foods proceeds to cry at more than 50% of the meetings, and often discusses fathers having sex and rapping their own daughters, which was very disturbing to all in attendance. The other 50% of the time in the Monday meetings the vice president will bash all in attendance as to how useless and bad your job performance is, (this is his way of uplifting the sales force or direct sellers). The Vice President of Town & Country Foods often brags during the meetings that he has no formal education or training and he runs the company through luck of sales, (being in the right place at the right time). Those who said anything during meeting to dispute his bashing or companies hiring deficiencies are immediately called in to a private meeting and fired.
Managers typically tell direct sellers to talk up company at meetings even if it is an untruth or a far stretch from the truth.

When you are given a scheduled appointment that you must take at anytime Town & Country wants you to take it, they do not give you a phone number as they do not want you to call if you are lost or no one is home when you arrive. I was hired as an Independent Contractor but was forced to work as an employee with no taxes withheld, benefits and all expenses on me.

The bottom line on your earnings after expense, if your lucky will be less than $10 an hour. Good Luck.
