Miscellaneous

December I was called @ work by a young lady asking what sounded like hypothetical questions in regards to a magazine subscription, naming some titles and asking if I read these. Based on the answers to what I thought was a survey, during work, we concluded the conversation in a timely fashion, giving no personal information other than my residential information to mail me some information.

A month later I received a follow up call in regards to a new account w / this company. I claimed I never received the information in the mail, and was told by another woman that this didn't matter. They had a voice recording, which is JUST as good as a signature. Well, signatures can be forged as well as recordings can be altered. I was connected to "customer service" and was told by Bill that I could NOT back out and that I owed $700.

I went on to explain how I never wanted this subscription. Again, I was told to pay.

I began to receive calls from a "company" of arbitrators called John Hammonds Office. They misrepresented themselves from the get-go. Cesar called me three time for a "deal" saying if I pay $250, this would be cleared up. Upon the request of a letter head from John Hammonds, he failed to produce. No more calls from Cesar.

Just recently, a Mike Morgan has called from this arbitrators office. He has finally called my house, leaving a clever message saying he is the mediator for my account for "whatever the name of the company is I ordered magazines from...", but cannot produce a letterhead, nor does he have a contact number outside of Publishers Direct Services office. Misrepresentation, again.

Finally, he has supposedly turned this over to collections, which is what Cesar promised to do over a month ago.

They have tried roping me into giving personal information over the phone, harrassed me @ work, and tried making me give payment info over the phone on numerous occasions. Fortunately, I have not given one cent, as I feel they were trying to scam me.

After reading these accounts dealing w / this telemarketting company, I have found I have nothing to really worry about... Afterall, they have gone from $700 bills, to threats of collection agencies, $250 settlements, right down to $125 settlements... Yet I fail to see how paying $125 for something I never wanted in the first place would make this company cease to call me, even in the aftermath.

I am sure I will here from another one of these "snakes" from magsubs.com POSING as a "mediator" or "arbitrator"...

You can Google anything, and I can tell you that John Hammonds is no arbitrators office. They have the same 800 # as Publishers Direct/Business Services / magsubs.com
