EHarmony
Ripoff

Miscellaneous

The Company lures you with deceptive advertising. I fell for the offer to try it for one month free. The trick is they will let you put yourself out there to receive "matches" but you can not communicate with anyone unless you sign up. When you sign up, you are given an option of auto-renewing. I chose not to because I wanted to try the service. What they don't tell you is they change your choice to auto renew without notifying you. No matter how many times you choose not to auto renew, someone comes up behind you and changes it to auto renew. So, you are automatically renewed each month. The "matches" they send are clearly a number of people who are no longer members (or people like me, disgusted and no longer particiapating). Also, the number of matches seems to be connected to your expiration date (you get more "matches" right before your expiration date). When I complained about being auto-renewed, their response to me was that I never changed my option not to auto-renew and I could not cancel after I was renewed. One consolation for me is I am a fitness instructor and I teach around 200-300 single adults per week and I have passed along my experience with eHarmony regarding their deceptive practices to my students. I compained to my bank and eHarmony is in for a surprise the next time they try to charge my account. According to my bank and the complaints I have seen online, there are many like me getting taken advantage of. I usually check out companies before I do business with them, unfortunately I did not this time. There are so many complaints like mine, I can't believe a company will behave so stupidly. I guess it is the advantage of an online company and the times of our culture that we are so close to each other and yet so far...
