Miscellaneous

I signed up for a six month membership with eHarmony, as it appeared to be the best deal. I was very disappointed in the service provided. I was consistently matched with men more than 15 or 20 years older than me.

I made the effort to figure out how to cancel my subscription, as I definitely did not want my account to auto-renew. After much difficulty - they clearly do not want you to know how to cancel an account! - I figured it out, and ensured that my account would not auto-renew at the end of the 6 months. I did this a few months ago.

On Friday (May 17th) I received my credit card bill, and was shocked to see a renewal charge from eHarmony for $209.00!! I telephoned the company right away to request a refund, but they refused. They said that apparently my attempt to cancel the auto-renewal did not succeed, and that I don't qualify for a refund as it has been more than 3 days since the charge was posted (April 20th).

They also said that apparently it is very common that attempts to cancel the auto-renewal don't go through, and they apparently prompt you in the instructions that it is necessary to double check that it went through. (!!)

Complete bullshit - it is clearly a scam. An honest company would not make auto-renewal the default and only option; they would not put through a renewal without advising you and giving you the option to cancel; and they definitely would not refuse to refund you for a product or service that you don't want!

I have registered a formal complaint with the BBB, the FCAC and I will also dispute this charge directly with my credit card company. Whatever it takes - I will not let them get away with this!!
