I had Chris Grace come out to fix my ice maker. He told me the whole "unit" needed to be replaced and kept looking in this little book. He said it was expensive and would run $479.00. He kept referring to the "unit" to make me think the entire ice maker needed to be replaced, not just the ice tray mechanism. He required a $250.00 deposit, which he had me make out to him personally, and said he would be back in 2 days to install. I was not at home the day he came to install the ice "unit", but my husband was. He was very surprised to see this small part instead of the large ice maker unit that is in the fridge. Chris Grace was in our home a total of 20 minutes for both days. He then had my husband write him a check that he actually made out to the company this time. When my husband asked him to leave the part, he nervously handed it back and said, "Yeah, the motor probably froze up. You could probably open it and lubricate the gears to see if it works." Well, gee, scam artist, why didn't you do this in the first place on your first visit? Oh, I know why: because then you would have only gotten a $69.995 service fee and not been able to rip me off.
When I got home I looked online for the price of the so-called "unit" and found it runs about $70.00. I would love to make that kind of money. $400 for 20 minutes of work is $1600 an hour. I called and confronted him on this, and he just kept referring to his book that tells him what to charge for the job total, with no breakdown of parts and labor. I have asked numerous repair companies and they all say the same thing: "There is no such book that tells you what to charge for a job. It will tell you part prices, not what to charge for the full job with no breakdown." They all also said he is a total rip-off and charged over double the amount for the job. When I told them the company name, they all said the same thing again: "Oh yeah, I have gotten numerous complaints about that guy!"
Do not use him.
