Company bothring me for the money i don't owe them

Hi, i was a customer of Fido over 8-9 years. I am sure that for last 5 years i didn't have any contract with them. Around 2 month ago i switched that company to other one. When i asked Fido how i owe them to pay for my usage they said you have around $ 420.00 for early cancellation. When i asked them to send me the copy of the contract that i have broken they said it was a verbal contract.
While i had not got any cellphone from them why should i have signed a contract. Later i sent 3 letters last one registered, because now i don't trust any verbal deals, asking them to send me any thing they
have about any kind of contract but instead of that they called my tens of times and know they have sent their demand to a collecting agency.
Please help me in this problem. Still i say, if they have any document
showing i owe them any thing i will pay it. Thanks
