On 12-11 I switched my DSL and home phone from "pots" to AT&T U-Verse. A technician came out and disconnected my old lines and connected to AT&T. I was assured the old services were cancelled, and have documented proof of cancellation. While the phone number is the same, they issued a new account which seems to be the source of the problem. I had about 16 days of credit on the old service. Despite owing me credit (about $50), they continued to bill me for the old, cancelled services. I called 7 times and got a different story. Every person acknowledges that I should not be billed and receive refund, yet they claim there are "exception errors" in their "system" or the person does not have access to the ILEC billing system. Most told me that it takes awhile to get the closing bill finalized.in February one "billing specialist" suggested that I pay them $227 just so I would not have my credit damaged while they "sort it out" which sounded to me like a shakedown. Sure enough beginning 4/2 I have received harassing collection calls from a collection company and they have dinged my credit, and they owe me money for unused service! The new AT&T U-verse account has always been paid on time and in good standing. This issue is regarding the old, disconnected service. As far as exception errors and employee access to "different systems" that don't let them fix an account error is not my problem and does not give them the right to damage my credit and harass me for money I do not owe.
