Received Fake Coin Instead of Merchandise, Claim Closed

I purchased some merchandise from a China seller on eBay using PayPal. After making the payment, I checked the seller's listings for other items, and suddenly I was shocked: many valuable items were extremely cheap. I suspected that it might be a scam, so I reported it to eBay. eBay did take action by removing the account completely. Many people purchased items that day, I can say thousands of them.
After eBay removed the account, the seller sent a warning to report it on PayPal. So I did. After I submitted my claim, I received the package. Instead of merchandise, a fake coin was in a registered envelope. PayPal said the seller had provided proof of postage. Despite my counterproof, PayPal did not want to honor my claim and closed the case. The scammer got thousands of dollars with the help of PayPal.
