Approximately three to four months ago, my laptop computer slowed down. I went online to find someone to help me fix it. I clicked on Norton which provides free security for comcast users. There was an ad on their website which stated that my computer could be fixed remotely for $39.95. I clicked on it, filled out the form and entered my credit card information. I was then directed to call a 1-800 number which was answered by a Norton Live representative. I was then switched over to a man with a India accent whose name I couldent spell or remember. He asked me to enter a certain code into my computer and after that he was able to control my mouse pointer. He sucessfully sped up my computer so I have no complaint about the job he performed that day.
However, three months later my computer could not be shut down normally and it would automatically shift back to switch user. When I clicked on switch user, it would prompt me that someone else was also using my computer. Not understanding what was happening I sensed that it was again in need of repair. On 2/12, while I was using my computer, my phone rang and when I answered, the same man with an India accent said: "I have detected a virus on your computer. I can remove it for the price of $39.95. While he spoke to me he had control of my mouse pointer and a series of commands began to scroll up the screen. He then asked: "Can you see it?" I replied I would be a fool to give you my credit card number. He replied "you can go to Western Union with cash, (Inappropriate Content Removed)." I asked him if he called a (Inappropriate Content Removed) and he began to deny saying it. I then unplugged my computer and removed the battery. "He then called me a stupid (Inappropriate Content Removed) and said I should go back to Africa. I asked him what color his skin was and where was he from. He then hung up.

The next day I took my laptop to the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy, where I purchased it. It cost $200.00 to have them remove the virus and the "back door" he kept on my computer.

I contacted Norton and have gotten nothing from them but a run around with lots of put on hold.

This person who apparently works for them, put a virus on my computer and tried to extort money from me. I must ask; Is'nt that a criminal act? If he is a contractor for Norton, shouldent they be held liable for his actions?

The number he called me from appeared on my caller I.D. It is 1-206-456-0662. I would really appreciate your help on this matter.
