Did not cancel acct after numerous calls and written requests and still billed me

Do not signup for aol!!! Change your bank account & card information immediately!!! My bank did it for me for free and they are also sending me new checks for my new account for free. I spent a total of 3 hours on the phone trying to cancel my account.

The very 1st rep I got said he would have to transfer me to the cancellation department and said "just in case you get disconnected the # for the cancellation dept is 888-265-8008."

Amazingly I got disconnected when he transferred me. I called the # that was given to me for the cancellation dept and went thru a series of questions and was told I would have to be transferred to the cancellation dept and she said let me give you thier # in case you get disconnected and gave me the same # I had just called and got her on. Of course I got disconnected again. I went thru this one more time. After becoming infuriated with the run-around I faxed a request for cancellation as the website said you could. I faxed it 3 times back to back.

Yesterday I checked my bank account online and low and behold a charge of $19.95 from AOL. I called AOL and the rep said that there was a notation on my account that they had recieved a csncellation request by fax but that there wasn't enough information to cancel the account??? What??? Obviously there was enough information for them to pull up my account and make notes that I was requesting cancellation but not enough info to cancel it. I asked her did she realize just HOW STUPID SHE JUST MADE HER SELF SOUND!

I am not even going to waste my time on calling AOL any more. I called my bank and closed my account and opened a new one. That is somewhat of an inconvienence considering the automatic bill payments I have but I would rather spend a few minutes changing that information than fooling with AOL and giving them my money for a service that I have cancelled and don't recieve any more.
