AOL charging debit card within a week after cancellation was confirmed!

Internet & Web

Last week I called AOL to cancel my service with them. Beforehand I had read the myriad reports on their deceptive practices to keep charging you money after you cancel, so I thought I had all my bases covered.

The woman in the cancellation dept that I spoke to (after, of course, the 15 minute 'We need to put you on hold while we "look up your information" routine, which she used on me TWICE trying to get me to hang up), then said she was unable to issue me a cancellation number because her system was "rebooting" — and that "rather than keep me on the phone" she would send it to me in the mail. Yeah RIGHT.

I told her I didn't believe her, and I wasn't hanging up. (It appears when you call AOL to cancel, they will do everything in their power including FLAT OUT LYING to get you off the phone without giving you that cancellation number). So then after listening to the rote bullet points about why I should stay with this wonderful company (after just being LIED to and treated like I was a horrible person because I simply wanted to cancel this "great" service), I finally got my cancellation number.

Lo and behold yesterday my bank called me from their Fraud department and apparently the "AOL QSTORE" is trying to charge money to my account for "Merchandise" & uhh I havent even logged into AOL for over 8 months! What a strange coincidence that I call to cancel the service finally and then immediately start getting other AOL charges on my account.

Stay away from this horrific, awful company. Why are they allowed to stay in business in the United States???
