Removed ability to run software, access files

I have had versacheck since 2000 and was currently running 2010 Gold. I had been concerned with that programs discussion of "validated" checks, but was told that I could bypass it. I don't write too many checks any more, and went to write a couple of critical ones this afternoon. Surprise! The software no longer worked. I could not access the files, could not print checks. Contacted the company — Not only do I have to pay to upgrade, I can't print any checks for at least 5 days until I go through a "validation" process (Oh, I can pay to speed that up!) AND I now have to pay to use check stock I have already been using for two years — or I can go out and buy THEIR checkstock. I never received any notice at all that this was happening. They didn't seem at all concerned that their actions had totally disabled my ability to write a check. All they wanted was money here, money there, and I guess they could shut the program down again if they wanted to. Not a good company to do business with. And I won't be.
