IYOGI, Cisco Router Support internet wasnt working, called, pretended to help me for 20min then tried to charge me $100, i denied them, turns out the internet was fine, theyre liars Internet

Internet & Web

My internet suddenly stopped working, i tried many things and nothing worked. So i googled 'cisco help hotline' and foolishly clicked on the first link's phone number, which connected me to iYogi.

I didnt notice that i wasnt speaking to Cisco directly until after i hung up and re-googled what i had previously searched.

The woman was seemingly very helpful and informative, but it seemed odd the manner in which she was speaking to me, using many 'scare tactic' words that would easily convince an elderly person who was unfamiliar with computers to shell out any money possible to 'fix the problem'.

She took access of my computer, and poked around in my internet settings, eyeballing different random strings of text and numbers, saying very vague things like 'this is not a good sign, this is not secure' etc.

She then BLATANTLY LIED and said, "ive tried everything i can, and the only way to fix this is we need to reconfigure your settings, which would take about 25 minutes." i sighed and agreed, thinking all along that it was Cisco and they would do it for free since im a paying customer.

She then sprung it on me that it would be a charge of $99.99, and thats when it all made sense. I told her i wouldnt be paying anything, and she hit me with a sales ploy like "well it would cost about $120 from your local repairman"

This is where she directly lied to me: "even if you buy a new router the problem will persist because it is the network not your router, you can only fix the problem by paying this money and letting me reconfigure your settings" Im no idiot and i know this is bullsh! T, so i disconnected her from accessing my computer and told her i would figure it out myself.

10 seconds later, i reset my internet and it worked like a charm. There was no problem with my router, she merely lied and prodded me along to believe that i had some imaginary problem that would require $ and her services to fix it.

This is like those crooked dentists who tell you that you need a $1200 root canal when its barely an early-stage cavity. Absolute thieves. The fact that this company still operates and is legitimate not only blows my mind, but goes to show that they have been successfully robbing unknowing, uneducated victims for god-knows how long.

They must be stopped, this is ridiculous. Hopefully, my mistake made today that led to the writing of this report will help others and aid in ending this scam once and for all.
