I took my computer to E-computing after speaking with the owner over the telephone about my problem; (he said he thought I had a virus and to call his tech at another location. I called the tech (Steve) and the tech said that I should bring the computer to his location in Howell, NJ.) After I arrived, the tech started to disassemble my computer. (He actually let the side of my computer drop to the floor when he disengaged it!) After attempting to get it completely disassembled, (Monitor cable connection was stuck, wouldn't unplug), he carried it to a table and connected it to his monitor. Discovered that it did have a virus and said that the computer was, "slow, " and if I was interested, I could purchase this rebuilt one they had on hand for $250.00 or $200.00, he would call the owner, Deric Tikotsky and find out what he wanted him to charge. He also said that it would cost me $90.00 to have the virus removed so it would probably be worth it to buy another computer.

He called the owner and the owner said that he wanted $200.00 for the rebuilt computer. After I thought about it, I decided to take the tech's advice and buy the rebuilt computer. I paid $233.20 which covered the $200.00 for the computer and $33.20 for a keyboard, mouse and tax.

The tech supposedly downloaded programs from my computer onto the rebuilt one I had purchased and I paid with a check. I had asked the tech if the check would be getting deposited that night, (by this time it was around 4:00 P.M.). The tech said, "no it wouldn't be getting deposited before the following day, sometime in the afternoon." I said, "fine, " and left.

I was pretty sure that the check would not be posted until the next day, even if it was deposited that same day because it was already after banking hours.

After I got the computer home and started using it, I quickly discovered that it was no faster than my original one, as a matter of fact it was slower! Plus I discovered that the tech had not downloaded all of my programs to the rebuilt one. I was missing Napster and a few other programs.in addition, I wasn't able to get into certain programs that appeared to be downloaded. I decided that I would return the rebuilt computer the next day and get my original computer back. I planned on asking them to just remove the virus after all.

When I went back the next day to return the rebuilt computer, I told the tech what I found when I tried to use it the night before. He said that they DO NOT give refunds. I said that it didn't work very well and he then said that he would ask the owner, Deric Tikotsky, what he should do but that he would not be able to get in touch with him because Deric was in NY. (I witnessed when I was there the day before that he was in touch with him at least 3 times in a half-hour).

I asked him to call me as soon as he knew something. Well, I didn't hear from him so at about 4:30 PM that afternoon I called him. He said that he had not talked to Deric and that I would have to wait. I told him I needed my computer and what was the problem. He insisted that he had not talked to Deric.in the meantime, I learned that even though I had returned the computer in the same shape I had received it, Deric Tikotsky had deposited my check even though he claims he had called the bank and the bank told him that there were insufficient funds in my account to cover the $233.20 check. I spoke to him later that day and he insisted that I owed him $25.00 for a returned check. First of all, he had only had the check in his possession for one day, (not enough time for the check to have been declined), second of all, I didn't have the computer any longer and he's still trying to charge me for it!

The bank DID honor the check even though I did not have the funds in there, (they did it as a courtesy), and Deric Tikotsky got $233.20 that was not his! When I finally got my computer back three (3) days later, they charged me $135.00 plus tax to remove the virus. I'm still missing a lot of audio downloads, Napster and a few other miscellaneous texts.

The story gets longer, I filed a police report, a report with the Better Business Bureau and now with consumer complaints.
