Bell South Fast Access DSL Ripoff-deceptive business practice

I'm going wireless. Wireless phone and going through my cable company for internet access. Not only is it one less bill but it's about 15.00 cheaper a month and I LOVE to save money!

So I call and cancel my phone service with no problem and then I call to cancel my internet service and I'm informed that they'll send out a return label so I can return the modem that I paid 80.00 for.

Return something I've paid for? Will I get my money back?

Nope. Not a single, red cent. Unbeknownst to me (and I'll be the first to admit I didn't read the fine print) when I signed up for DSL through BellSouth I entered into a contract for a year. Essentially the contract states that if I don't keep my service for a year and don't cancel with in 60 days I have to return the modem or be billed an additional 150.00.

The rep on the phone (who was nothing but polite) even admitted to me that she thought it was pretty stupid that I'm bound to return something I bought and get nothing in return for it.

So to punish its customers, customers I'm sure they want to keep, they've set it up so that you're penalized to the tune of 150.00 if you decide you'd like to save a few bucks.

I'm still returning the modem. So I learned an 80.00 lesson today, but I don't have to do business with a company that practices this way. I'm a consumer and there are many, many other companies who want my business and I'm glad to give it to them because I'd be willing to bet cold, hard cash (maybe even 80.00) that I can find a company with no subtle contracts or ridiculous policies such as this.

Watch me leave BellSouth behind and watch me tell a tale of deceptive business practices and ridiculous expectations, a tale of a company who, obviously, doesn't need my business.
