Aol
America On-Line ripoff billed for 2 planners I never ordered one at $43.65, the other $33.65

Internet & Web

In randomly checking my bank balances on-line, I noticed my checking account was "short." Pulled up the statement, and on Nov. 18, AOL had taken TWO withdrawals from my checking account, via the debit card number I use to pay my monthly AOL fee. These were designated as being for the "Desk Planners, " but it's curious that one was $43.65 and the other $33.65.

I never ordered these. I have no recollection of receiving any emails about them. I did an on-line chat with a billing rep, and she told me to call the 800# listed in this report. This is the AOL Desk Planner order processing division. I was told by the rep who handled my call that my order obviously hadn't "hit the system" yet, so they couldn't cancel it. He told me to check back in a few days. I called back this last Monday (Nov. 24), and this fellow seemed more helpful, even checked by zip code to try to find my orders, but no dice. He told me he couldn't refund my money without evidence of an order! So, I'm out $77.30!!!

My primary source of income is Social Security Disability Income, and I'm a single mom with 2 kids. That $77.30 is a significant dent in my monthly resources.

I have filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Division of the Kentucky Attorney General's Office. I have notified the AOL Planner office that I have taken this step, and that I suspect their behavior qualifies as a crime under the Interstate Commerce Code.
