Memory Giant
Ripped me off

Internet & Web

Be very cautious with this company. They don't do what they promise on their website and what is even worse, ther take no responsibility for their actions. This is what happened to me:

I wanted to upgrade the memory in my laptop. I am a computer technician and I know that to find a memory stick that is compatible with my laptopis very hard. It's not enough to know if you need SD or DDR memory, there are a whole bunch of details that the memory has to match. I needed the memory urgently, so I went online to find a company, who can deliver me the right module, thus avoiding the trial and error of buyingand inserting many different memory modules. Basically I wanted to finda company with experts. I was very happy to find Memory Giant because they said on their website exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm going to quote what they wrote at different parts of their website:
"... We can garantee you a 100% compatible ram upgrade for your computer TODAY!"

"MemoryGiant guarantees this product to be compatible with your system and deliver the performance you need."

"Your Compaq HP Presario V2000 only supports modules made with a specific type of chip. Should you find what seems to be the exact same memory elsewhere for a lower price, it is very possible that the cheapermemory will not work in your system.By using the MemoryGiant Memory Finder your selected memory modules are guaranteed to work or your moneyback!"

All right, having read all these convincing words I surely went ahead and ordered the memory module for my laptop. I received the memory in a few days and immediately wanted to install it in my laptop. I inserted the memory, turned on the computer and nothing. The computer turned on but nothing on the screen. A typical sign of memory incompatibility. I took it out and immediately checked if maybe they shipped me a differenttype of memory and no, the memory was the one they said I needed for mysystem. Being a technician I had several laptops laying around, so I tested if maybe they shipped me a defective memory, but no the memory was operational. It was clearly a compatibility issue, which they guaranteed would not happen, or money back. I was frustrated because time was pressing for me so I called them up right away.

The representative told me that no problem they will ship me a different one. I told him that OK, but you guys will cover the shipping back of the incompatible memory right? He said no I have to pay for that ($8). Iwent crazy! What do you mean I have to pay for that? You guys guaranteed to ship the compatible memory for my laptop and you didn't. The memory is clearly NOT defective, it is a compatibility issue. What if you ship a different memory and it won't be compatible either? What if that happens 5-10 times in a row? (I'm speaking from experience that It is very common to try to install a memory in a laptop and only the 10th module is compatible.) Then I have to pay $100 for their mistake because they have NO CLUE what memory my laptop is compatible with? I quoted parts of their text from their website that would prove me right but the guy just very rudely disregarded everything that I said.

He was trying to tell me that their policy states that the customer will have to pay for any returns. I asked him, then what the h*ll is the 100% compatibility guarantee is for? He said it means that they will send me adifferent one in case the one they shipped would not work. I was like, whaaaatttt??? Then you should have said that on your website, I told him. He said they do. I was so furious that I just hung up on him. Itook the time and went back to the website if there was something that Imissed the first time reading it. I only found text that clearly statesthat they 100% guarantee compatibility or money back. I even took snapshots of the webpages in case they would change it later. I called the guy up again, laughing in my mind... Haha I got you, you were lying to me. It was the same rep. And I gloriously told him what I found or actually what I didn't:) He again started bull$#*! Ing me and finally hesaid but if you go to their separate return policy page, it shows that customer have to pay for any returns.

At this point I just lost it. Why would I visit their return policy page when I want to buy a memory that is supposed to be a 100% compatible memory for my system? Also there wasnot link to the return policy page on any of the pages that I as a buyer would see during the selection and checkout process. So they expecting customers to abandon the page they are on, go back to the homepage, look for the return policy page, which I don't even need because Idon't want to return anything, and then go back and find the memory again and check out. I realized that I was just wasting my time, so I told him that if he doesn't provide me with a solution that is fair I will not want him to ship me anything, I will return the memory and willnever buy anything from them again. And I will report them as fraud because they are deceiving customers. I finally ended up paying $8 for return shipment and they of course only refunded the price of the memoryexcluding the delivery cost, which was $6.90 fedex special price. So I ended up paying $14.90 for absolutely nothing, only a few days of waiting and a great deal of frustration.
