Router scam

I have verified this with many sites and other who have Charter locally. Charter uses a Motorola Surfboard modem which continually resets and changes the IP address to the router causing the router to lock up. This happens several times a day and you loose connectivity as a result. The modem reset is forced by charters system. When you call them the people on the telephone a third party call center is clueless. The local office is clueless. Then they send out a third party contractor technician who is clueless. There is no remedy and surfing the internet to see if others have this problem takes you to hundreds of sites and complaints of the same thing going back past 2008.

It is amazing with the insane amount of money Charter is paying these third party call centers, and technician contractors that Charter won't list the issue on their web site with a list of approved routers.instead they want you to rent one from them at an insane price of $10 a month! Now for a router that only costs $40 new! This is nothing more than an attempt to skirt Federal laws by making people rent their over priced router/modem units. They designed the system to send out of range IP addresses to your own router so it stops working. The only solution is to reboot the router several times a day.

This tactic also skirts federal laws by making many VOIP providers crash while on charter, so Charter can sell you their over priced VOIP telephone service.
