Cybershops1.com; aka a div. Of cybermedia group, inc.; john williams, memb. Director, continues to bilk consumers through failing to deliver on false internet promises.

I used to think i was a relatively intelligent person; i really hate myself when i try to be vigilant and still get ripped off!

I've learned that 30-day free trials are rip-offs; if i ever do get the membership materials, it's 'way past the end of the trial period, and i've probably already been charged; usually i never get anything — except surprise charges appearing on credit card bills. Consequently, on the phone, or in the mail, i just say no.

But these guys promised immediate access, on the web, and an immediate gift-card which could be used anywhere, even if i don't continue my membership.

On 5/23/03 10:09 PM, i wrote to them telling them i wanted out, due to their ripoff policies, describing my discoveries of what was scattered around the websites. Here is their reply:

An approved Trial Member is defined as one who has properly completed a membership application to become a Trial Member of CyberShops accompanied by a valid credit card number, valid expiration date, and card must be able to be authorized for a charge of $3.95 to cover the processing fee for your 30 day trial membership to CyberShops. This offer is subject to credit approval, debit card are not accepted.invalid, declined, debit cards, and duplicated credit cards will not be approved for a trial membership and a gift card redemption certificate will NOT be mailed. This offer is subject to change without notice. Credit approval is required for membership in the Club.

3. Upon receipt of your completed certificate and verified approved Trail Member Status, your FREE Gift Card will be shipped directly to you from our supplier within 90 business days. CyberShops1.com reserves the right to substitute a MasterCard or Visa issued gift card or corporate check in lieu of Gift Card.

Surprise! All i have received is the shock of finding 134.95 charged on my credit card. I was upset i'd thrown away 3.95 to learn this lesson yet one more time; but this is ridiculous!

After i found out they didn't honor my cancellation, i went back on their website — who knows why. Anyway, i ran across a whole bunch of rhetoric about how everything is non-refundable and if one attempts to stop payment through one's credit-card company they'll destroy one's credit rating, turn one over for collection, and create all manner of financial havoc against one.

Isn't there some way to eradicate these scum from the face of the earth?!
