Verizon Internet - No service, horrible customer service, charges after cancellation

I recently had the privilege to get screwed by Verizon. I ordered Verizon DSL on June 26. The activation date was July 6, and still had no connection on July 10. Between the 6th and 10th, I endured hours of the outsourced technical support and customer service, and gave up on the 10th. Knowing of the 30 day satisfaction guarantee, I cancelled my account that day and a week later, I received the modem return sticker via USPS, to return the modem via UPS! When I finally was able to get it shipped out a week and a half later (I had 30 days before they charge for it), I thought I had completely washed my hands of them.

It was today, July 28, that I checked my bank account and discovered I had been charged yesterday for the amount of $56.37! This is two and a half weeks after I cancelled my service! There is nothing in the agreement stating that I will be charged for service after cancellation! I called them back, and was informed that I was billed for my first month and it would be returned on my next statement. Billed? Why after I had cancelled!? I am furious as this leaves my bank account severely crippled.

I really think I have a fraud case, but it wouldn't be worth my time to take legal action, and it wouldn't stop them from doing it again.instead, I will contact the Better Business Bureau and post on usacomplaints.com. I suggest that anyone else who has been screwed do the same!
