I had free AOL 2-4 years ago for the free period and then called and canceled.in May and June I noticed that I had charges on my bank account that I did not authorize. The bank told me it was AOL, which I hadn't dealt with in 2 - 4 years. I also had 2 checks bounce because I had the funds in my account to cover but by the time AOL took out $65.80 It started a big mess.By the time $65.80 was taken out of my account and $59.90 for 2 returned checks that cost $29.95 a piece I was out $125.70.
I called AOL and spoke with "Sterling" and he said he was sending out a affidavit form to recover my charges. He said someone had committed fraud against me and I told him no I think it was someone in your company. Received affidavit, filled it out and sent copies of my May and June bank statements showing they took it out of my account, and sent it back in.
In about a week or two they did credit my account with $65.80 but I was still out the $59.90 for my bounced checks. I called and spoke with "Anthony" and I argued with him until I was blue in the face. He told me that my bank was responsible to refund those charges to my account. So I called my bank and as I expected they said "how is it our responsibility when AOL were the ones who took it out". The bank ended up taking one of the $29.95 fees off of my account but I still had $29.95 fee that they refused to take off.
Called AOL back and argued some more. They refused to credit my account the $29.95 for the bounced check and so I had to eat that. I did fax them a nice little letter (so I would have proof) of them I ended up telling "Anthony" I got screwed and I didn't enjoy it. The 1st week in November I get another letter from AOL saying "you selected a payment method for which there is a monthly surcharge..."surcharge was incorrectly listed as $5.00 per month. However, the correct surcharge amount is $7.00 per month. We regret the error..." What is going on? Can anybody help me to put these people out of business? I am waiting for my new bank statement to see if they have taken anymore out of my account. Beware of aol!!!
