Defective Monitor rip-off fraud

I ordered and received my brand new Gateway computer complete with monitor and printer just after Christmas in 2001. The computer is just over a year old and suddenly the expensive monitor is going out. It started getting darker and within a week was so dark it almost unusable.

I contacted Gateway thinking that they would support their products and be outraged that a monitor failed so quickly and at a very minimum offer to replace it at a reduced costs.instead they told me, "we are sorry, that shouldn't happen." A week later I get an E-mail telling me about their exciting new products and why don't I buy more Gateway products.

My previous cheap knock off brand monitor lasted me five years and my sister has had it for a year and it is still operating like new. Considering all the rhetric Gateway touts about their products and reliability, it seems they would handle this situation better.
