AOL, America Online ripoff dishonest fraudulent billing

Internet & Web

I received a 45-day free internet access trial offer from AOL and signed-on August 13. On September 13 I called AOL Customer Service to cancel, but was asked to continue the free trial until November 15.

November 4 I called AOL Customer Service to cancel the free trial again, and was offered to continue the free trial again until January. But I insisted on the cancellation, finally the cancellation was confirmed with Cancellation Confirmation #0097618251.

Today I received my creditcard statement showing AOL charged $23.90 on October 29, six days before the free trial was cancelled.

I called AOL billing requesting a refund, but the AOL Billing insisted that the charge could not be reversed because I cancelled the free trial after their billing date of October 27.

The criticality of this Billing Date was never mentioned to me during my repeated request of cancellation telecon with AOL reps. It certainly feels like a trap waiting for the free-triers to fall-in. I hope this report will alert all would-be AOL-Triers not to get into this dirty trap.
