Buy.com
Deceptively convinced me to sign up for a credit card by showing an inaccurate discounted total on website Dayton Ohio

Internet & Web

I was in the process of purchasing a computer from Buy.com with a 5% off coupon that they emailed me. The computer was $400 and the total with the coupon was $380. Immediately before checking out, I was presented with an opportunity to sign up for a credit card that would instantly be worth an additional $30 and displayed my new total of $350.

After successfully obtaining credit, I was redirected to Buy.com with my total of $350. I clicked to checkout and received an error message that I couldn't use two coupons/discounts.

Having already been approved for credit, I was stuck with a new credit card, but without the promised benefit of the additional $30 discount. I called their customer service department to be informed no fewer than ten times by the initial agent and her supervisor that you can't use two coupons. Neither expressed any interest or concern in my situation or their deceptive practices.

Since this occurred last week I have left two message at their corporate office for Doug Pearce (the BBB contact) and have not heard back.
