Sent me to collections after I canceled back in December Gloucester Virginia

I tried this companies free trial back in December of 06. After signing up I did receive one email from them but after that I kind of forgot about the trial until a couple days later when I decided I was not going to use the service and canceled it. I canceled it in December and noticed a few weeks later that they were trying to charge my virtual debit card $69.99 pretty much every day for a week, but my card had no money on it so they all failed. Anyway, i decided to just cancel that card and let that be the end of it. Well, it was the end of it up until last week (6 months later!) when I got a letter at my parents house from a collections agency saying that I owe Internet Speedway $179.80! I have not had a chance to call that company yet but will be doing that Monday for sure! I looked in my email to see if I could find something proving that I canceled the service but apparently they did not send me anything afterward which leaves me defenseless in the matter. They will be hearing from me again soon and I will not be a happy person on the phone!
