I am a Police Officer at a University in PA. I have full access to the department's credit card as I am a front line supervisor in charge of purchasing goods for the department.
I was on ebay one day bidding on training videos, proceeded to enter the department's credit card information into my personal paypal account, then did NOT purchase anything.
About a month later my Chief opened the card statement and much to his surprise there were several paypal charges. Immediately assuming the card numbers were stolen he did the right thing and contacted the card company. I came to work later on to find out what happened, I was in shock, who would have done such a thing? To steal from a Police Department... Hhmm can't get much more stupid than that!
Then upon my review of the statement I noticed some familiar names and my heart sunk! I said to the other Sergeant. Wow I think this is me! He laughed and we got into my paypal account and sure enough, they charged the wrong credit card.
I was at the time purchasing many items on ebay and I did in fact have 2 of my own personal credit cards on the account also, with my name and information. The department's card had the department's name along with the Chief's name as the card is in his name. Why Paypal charged this card I have no idea but I'm getting screwed here.
After the issue was resolved with my employer, with much laughter and my cutting a check for $341.00, I contacted Paypal to see what to do now. I was assured that once I went through several steps such as getting an expanded use number etc. That my account would be restored and the sellers would be paid the money they were holding.
Well last week, around 3 weeks after the fact they have decided to close my account. Now I've been scrambling getting ebay sellers paid another way, while Paypal is holding my cash. I wonder if they have any intention of reimbursing my money #1 and #2 what is their problem? After countless email messages sent to them only to receive their cheesy auto response, no one contacts me in return. I asked them to please not send payment to the sellers that I made other arrangements, and I never heard a thing so these people could in fact get paid twice if paypal really wanted to be ignorant.
I'm concerned with the way this was handled. How unprofessional not to even respond with a simple email. I call and speak to someone on the phone and each and every one of them tells you something different. The last time I called which was last week, I had to pleasure of speaking with a male supervisor who said he can't help me that the decision is final and that's that. I asked if he could please have someone in appeals contact me and the answer was no.
How can something get resolved if you can't talk to anyone or they refuse to listen. This company is a classic and clear example of what business should NOT be. I have never in my entire life been treated so disrespectfully. Now that I'm a law enforcement officer I can't believe they wouldn't even hear my story without having a ready made decision. Do you really think that I would be DUMB enough to use my department's credit card for personal charges when each and every number next to the charge will bring you directly to my Paypal account? Why, when I have 2 personal credit cards online to use would they choose the department's card? They won't admit it nor will they help me.
All that I asked was that they get the sellers paid, then who cares close the account as I don't want to do business with them anymore anyway; nope couldn't do that. I was blown off like I was dirt. I want this company to pay for this somehow. I had to go through an expensive process to do the right thing by getting the sellers paid. Now tell me I lack integrity! I want whatever I can get right now but most of all I sincerely hope this company does not screw me out of more money.
