Walgreens Prescription transfer from another pharmacy offer a scam

My wife and I both received an offer to transfer a prescription currently with another pharmacy to Walgreens. For this, they promised a $25.00 Walgreens gift card to each of us. We are both on Social Security, Medicare and insured through a private insurer for our Medicare part D.

We both transferred a prescription from CVS over to Walghreens. When it was time for the refill, Walgreens called us to come in and pick it up. When I went to Walgreens to pick our medications up, I was informed that we would not get the $25.00 gift cards, because we were insured by a Medicare part D insurance company. They would not give gift cards to "public assistance" insured individuals.

I contested their policy and informed them that Social Security was not Public Assistance and also we paid for the Medicare Part D insurance plan. The clerk and the store Manager would not listen to me and I left with out medications and of course with out the gift cards.By the way, they said "Why not just take your medications anyway"

So now we have to transfer the prescriptions back to CVS. This will take time, effort and exasperation that were all unnecessary.By the way, the Manager of the store said that this was all explained in the fine print at the bottom of the email that was sent to us. We did not see it and therefore did not read it.

But thinking about that, since all public assistance was not acceptable including Medicaid and all Social Security plans and Medicare, who does that leave to receive this offer? This is Tampa Florida not Westport, CT. Thanks Walgreens. We will remember your little scam for years to come.
