Costco
A sleep aid prescription for $514.00 without a phone call? No way!

Health & Medicine

I sent my 20 yr old daughter to Costco to pick up 2 prescriptions for me (1 a sleep aid that I had never had before and the other a thyroid med which I had had before). I had given her cash for my prescriptions and my Am Ex card in case she needed it to get in the doors of Costco. After getting through the waiting line the gal gave her the total of the prescriptions. The Thyroid for 3 months was around $20 and the sleep aid (Lunesta) for 3 months was $514.33 (THAT'S CRAZY!!!). The problem in all of this is that they didn't call me to tell me that my insurance (which they had my card on file) didn't cover this prescription and that when my daughter didn't have enough money to pay for it she asked if she could put it on my Am Ex card as she was embarrassed to hold up the line and have them call to see it this was ok. Being 20 she didn't have much experience in prescriptions. I am willing to accept my part in sending a 20 year old to pick up my prescriptions but I think it was REALLY POOR JUDGEMENT ON THEIR PART TO ALLOW A 20 YEAR OLD TO USE MY CREDIT CARD AS WELL AS ALLOWING HER TO PICK UP A PRESCRIPTION THAT WAS $514.33 THAT I HAD NEVER HAD BEFORE. This just seems really poor business practice and also lacks business ethics.
