Ripoff dishonest fraudulent billing

We received orthodontic treatment through Dr. Geylikman.
It came time to take off our son's braces. Our insurance was discontinued due to financial reasons, so we lost our insurance.

We went to Dr. Yury and asked what we owed. First they tried to tell us the amount of 1900.00 to finish treatment.including braces removal, retainers, etc. At that point my usband said because of the costs we would like to discontinue treatment. When my husband said that we would have to call the insurance company and check, they refused to remove our son's braces even though it was time to do so. They had us return a 2nd time to remove the braces. That day my husband took off from work to be there. Still they refused to do anything to treat Ian at all.

After the second visit, they were paid in full by our insurance company for the services rendered to this point. We kept getting many quotes of how much out of pocket costs would be to us if we continued treatment with retainers and follow-up treatments, etc. We then got estimates from other orthodontists for the costs to us to take off our son's braces and get a retainer. Dr. Yury refused to remove the braces until we paid him another $285.00 for "Breach of contract." When we asked where we signed that we would owe that amount for "breach of contract" they continued to send us a thing that we initialed saying that if ortho insurance coverage is terminated prior to the completion of active treatment "then usual and customary fees will prevail."

It also says that if the account goes in arrears Doctor has option to discontinue treatment. "All of this writing is vague and confusing. Nowhere is this amount stated or is there a "breach of contract clause" What breach of contract? The braces were ready to be removed. There is nothing anywhere that we signed that notified us that we would owe the amount of $285.00 for "breach of contract."

Our insurance company paid them in full for all the services rendered to us. We also were not satisfied with the treatment and demeanor in which we or our son was treated through all of this. Shouldn't we have the right to choose who should take off his braces and who we should get our retainers from if we are paying and Dr. Yury is refusing to remove the braces? To me this fee is underhanded and unfounded extortion.

They have also been threatening us with collection and harrassment if we don't pay this amount of $285.00. Dr. Yury's office, to our understanding just pulled this charge and this amount out of the air without any clear written prior notification. To me if you are paid in full for the services you have rendered what right do they have to charge us this amount through the back door when no other services were done for this money??
