Charged us $1,000 for training, refused to rebate $500.00 unused

On October 13, I (61 years of age) and a 79-year old friend joined Pure Fitness gymn at a rate of $19.00 a month plus an initial "start-up" charge of $174.00 for the two of us. Within minutes we'd been "songed and danced" into signing-up for 10 personal training sessions at $100.00, and again we paid them $1,000.00. We had two free sessions (comes with membership) and five sessions at $100.00 each; we then realized that there was nothing more to be gained from the training: We knew what machines to use, at what weights and for how long. So further training is not needed.

Starting last week, we spoke with three people in management, on three different occasions, if Pure Fitness would please refund the unused $500.00. Each of these three indicated "no problem, " but we'd have to speak with somebody-or-other else first. The somebody, Scott Hewitt left a phone message for us today, 11/11, and I tried to call him, to no avail. So my friend and I went to the gymn to see him. After a short wait, he came to get us. But all he did was to refer us to his supervisor, David Kent (Fitness Director) who behaved much like a used car salesman and offered us nothing. He would not even apply the $500.00 toward our monthly membership fees! We asked for the name of his superior, and he flatly refused to give us a name or any other information. Tomorrow I will contact the Arizona Corporation Commission to find-out who the members of this Washington State based limited liability company are. I will contact them with my complaint as well as the Arizona Better Business Bureau.
