Told to go to another dentist when I pointed out unfair treatment

I do not recommend this dentist. They mangled my x-rays, never told me about it, and when I politely expressed disappointment in not being notified I was told to go to another dentist.

I made an appointment to come in for x-rays, cleaning and to fill a cavity. Although other people from my family who had gone there regularly managed to get a cleaning and x-rays on the same day, I was told I had to get the x-rays first and come back for another appointment for the rest, which I accepted without question. I paid over a hundred dollars for the x-rays right away, because I had just taken a new job and did not yet have insurance from my new job (I mention this because I suspect not having insurance may have been a factor, even though I paid for everything up front).

They said they could not tell me anything that day because the x-ray machine was not working and they would have to wait for the results. I didn't complain, I went home waiting for a call from them when they got the x-rays. I did not receive any call from them. Two weeks later, I called them back asking when I could make an appointment for the cleaning and cavity, they told me my x-rays had been destroyed and I had to do them over.

I made another appointment and came in. Even though I was the first one there, another person walked in and received service before me, which made me feel even more put upon. When I told the doctor I was disappointed at not being notifed and felt that I was not being treated like other patients (who *had* been notified and were able to get multiple procedures at one sitting), I was immediately told to go to another dentist. My family has gone to this dentist for years, and I am shocked at the complete lack of common courtesy. I never even received an apology, even though I was never rude or raised my voice, all I did was say that I was disappointed.

It was clear to me from the beginning that I was not welcome in that office. I and my family had gone to that dentist for years previously (for general maintenance), but had moved away and returned after a bit of absence. My adult children who had insurance were able to get multiple procedures done at one sitting without any problem, and did not have to wait so long for their work to get done. I felt betrayed after I had gone there before and now I felt like I was being treated badly just because I did not have insurance (even though I paid for everything up front).

I expressed my concerns to the dentist very politely, I simply wanted an apology and to be reassured. But as it turned out, all my suspicions were correct, because the dentist seemed to be waiting for an excuse to get rid of me. I do not understand this because I never raised my voice, never did anything except say I felt disappointed and did not understand why other patients seemed to be able to do things I could not. Maybe I am over-reacting, but I was shocked and very disappointed at this experience, and I would encourage other people not to go to this dentist unless you never expect to complain about anything, ever.
