Verizon
Cell Phone Rip off and contacting relatives

Electronics and household app.

I previously had a contract with a cell phone provider, West Virginia Wireless, which Verizon bought out. AT the time of the buy out I only had one month left in my contract. We had to change over to different phones and I was given two free phones.

Unfortunately I couldn't get any coverage within my area and because I was using these as home phones and because I had an elderly aunt, who is on dialysis and in bad health, who has to be able to reach me whenever needed and to come pick her up from her dialysis treatment, I went into the store to complain.

At that time the manager informed me that upon being bought out by Verizon that they the company was now using borrowed towers and they had no control over the kind of service I would receive.

He also informed me that since I had not chosen to go to Verizon but they had chosen for me and since it was within 30 days of my receiving my cell phones, that all I had to do was turn in the phones and my service would be cancelled without any further charges besides the amount I paid that day.in other words I would not be charged for a early termination of contract fee. I stressed that I could not afford that fee and was told there would be no problem with that.

Meanwhile I got billed with a early fee which I refused to pay. I explained what was going on to a manager and in fact was told that "yeah right, the manager said that" and who spoke to me in a very demeaning manner. A collector for Verizon started calling my home and even called my son's home and discussed my debt with him to the point of telling him how much I owed.

Is this a good business practice?

Now as a result of this, I can no longer afford cell phones because of the high amount of deposit required because of this early cancellation fee and not having paid it.

This has caused me undue stress and problems. I didn't ask for anything other than what I was told would happen and that was that my service would be cancelled at no charge or penalty to me.

People beware of Verizon.
