T-Mobile
Lowest Rate Plan Excluded From Best Price on New G1 Phone

Electronics and household app.

I've been with T-Mobile since 2005 and established good credit in those 3 years. I've subscribed at the lowest rate plan of $29.99 a month.

Today, I was pursuing the purchase of the much anticipated HTC G1 Touch screen phone - to be available on Oct. 22. The widely advertised price is $179.00 - "$20.00 less than the iphone." It's a much used advertising line.

Online, my "best customer price" was $299.99 plus an upgrade fee of $18.00.

I called customer service to ask why the $179.00 was not appearing in the checkout cart.

You guessed it! As I have been subscribing at the "lowest rate plan" I don't qualify for the BEST price for their new phone. Customer service said had I been subscribing at $39.99 a month, I would have qualified!

The catch is that their website even states the $29.99 rate plan is inclusive for consideration of all upgrades! I read the statement to the CSR.

She tried to convince me, using "new math" that I had essentially saved all that money by subscribing at the bottom rate plan! She did check with a supervisor (I was on hold for several mins.) and was not interested in my future business or in modifying the price of the G1 for me.

I was prepared to upgrade my acct. And begin paying considerably more on a monthly basis (web access, text plan, etc.)

As far as I'm concerned, this is false advertising. Nothing has been disclosed about qualifying rate plans in any media. I'm not so sure I'll keep my acct. At T-Mobile.
