Internet Phone Service Works for several weeks... Then? West Palm Beach Florida

We installed the product with no problems. It worked extremely well—both on local calls and on long distance. Crisp, clear on both ends. Then after three weeks, problems began to develop. I would place a call, there would be a moment of silence, then nothing but a dial tone. This happened again and again.

After three weeks there were many dropped calls; the person on the other end couldn't hear me, or I couldn't hear them. Lots of static and scrambled words.

Since I have a slight amount of tech experience, I set to work trying to fix the problem. This took two days. I disconnected everything and slowly reconnected wiring to see where the problem was. I called customer service only to speak to a robot who gave me a list of "fixes." None worked.in addition, there was absolutely no attempt on their part to help a customer who had any issues. Most of their suggestions simply made no sense; in fact, I believe such suggestions screwed up my computer. Bottom line: Magic Jack is a worthless piece of junk. It simply does not work.

Now, some previous posts here have mentioned that perhaps their original landline telephone provider might have had a hand in some "mischief", but that would take an investigation that is beyond the reach of the average consumer, and I doubt any governmental agency would bother to pursue it.

As Ben (a previous poster) mentioned, be aware that this company can go into your bank account and debit your account again and again. This is particularly true if you paid with a debit card. If you paid with a credit card you might have some protection—check with your credit card provider.

It's a real pain to change bank account numbers, but reluctantly we're going to do this. I really feel like such a jerk since I told several friends about Magic Jack.
