Sony, Even though VAIO laptop VGN-SZ2XP is still under 3 year warranty and is faulty, Sony won't fix it under warranty Belgium Brussels

On my Sony VAIO (VGN-SZ2XP), the left hand hinge connecting the screen and the keyboard came loose.

Without any warning, when I opened the laptop, the hinge stayed down, and so broke through the plastic case surrounding the screen. The hinge is still completely fixed and will not move.

However, after supplying pictures of the problem to Sony, Sony today confirmed that they would not fix the fault under warranty.

Their email system did not accept a video of the problem, clearly showing how the hinge is fixed and so the breaking of the case surrounding the screen was inevitable.

I was told today that if I send the machine in for repair, then I would be very likely charged for shipping, and for the fixing of the fault. When I asked for confirmation, I was then told that I would be charged.

I was told that mine is the first report of this problem, and so therefore it is unlikely to be Sony's problem.

I replied that for any problem with a faulty laptop, logically, there has to be a first report. This may well be the first report. But I would like to know how many other people have had this problem with a Sony VAIO and not been protected by their warranty?

This does not seem like the way to treat customers who have paid a lot of money for an extended 3 year warranty.
