Hidden charges, price increases, directv hd dvr

My house signed up for Directv about 2 years ago. We had no problems until we decided to upgrade to HD. Unlike Dish Network, they make you pay out of pocket for the HD reciever. We got ours at Costco for $179.99, which was a deal. On the box was a sticker that said the unit is property of Directv and we are only paying for a lease. This has been well documented on other rip off reports.

The gentleman on the phone said that we would only experience $10.00 extra per month for our HD service. He also explained we would get 6 months of HD for free. So it seemed like a good deal.

First bill: $10.00 HD, a hidden $6.99 DVR charge (which was NEVER conveyed, verbally or in writing), and a $5.00 "Rate Increase" for our basic package.

After several phone calls and hours of wasted time, they only agreed to remove the hidden DVR charge for 6 months.

Make sure you get everything in writing before entering into a contract with them.

They made $55 billion last year and are trying to keep growing, thus shafting customers left and right. It's unethical and we are not going to renew our contract.
